I would personally run the largest dual-core AMD processor you could find, and atleast two gigs or more of RAM, two separate HDD, one for OS and one for FS, and Probably the G-Force 8600 512mb video card. And I would probably invest in WideFS so that you could run all your outside programs like ASX and everything like that on a second computer to free up memory on the primary computer.
Cheers!

I just got a Macbook Pro (not just for FSX) but it works great on my 50GB partition - most sliders maxed out.
Also FSX works pretty decent on my HP Media Center PC.

Doesn't ASX run with simconnect and not WideFS when used on another computer? How many of you are seeing success using simconnect? A number of us are having a difficult time with it. I don't want to derail the original intent of this posting because I have an interest in the topic as well, just want to make sure correct information is being posted. I don't think all applications built for FSX can make use of WideFS.
Why the G-Force 8600 as opposed to the 8800 768MB GTX?

Josh,
If i were a betting man, I would wait , if you can, until the 4th quarter of the year. Tech is going to change, yes, it always does, but i think you may like the results, Real DX10 cards, not driver run, CPU's that will eliminate the need of getting there info from the FSB, Memory that will knock your socks off.
But if this is not the case and your going to through out 3.5K the INTEL 45nm QX9650, an Intel X38 board or for the nvidia lover in us all an i790 series, FSX at this time does not really support SLI configs one 8800GTX for Nvidia, not sure on the 9800 series cards yet, mixed reviews on them. one 3870x2 for ATI lovers. 750 W PS I would look at Silverstone on a single rail, but if you like two rail configs they make a descent dual rail with minimum trickle. Ddr 2 for now get 4 Gb its cheap , Dominator or crucial. Xfi deffinetly if your going to crank it up A Nice case with alot of air flow going through it, unless your going to water cool it, then I would still get a roomy case with 120mm fans to move air and keep noise to a minimum.
Do your homework, CPU,GPU, mem all have to work in conjunction, no sense in getting a 1333 FSB mobo and runing parts that only run 800FSB or 1066 and if you do go SLI or Xfire, A High res monitor 2990 or better, to see any differnce in res. But as i state its the buyers descision, the E8 series chips are so back logged it will be 6-8 weeks before they are available. Then if you are lucky, you may get one. If your not going to Overclock then I would look at other alternitive.
FSX will benifit from the Quad. There are extensive readings on this subject, you will have to set it up to make it work , but the diffence in a 2 verses 4 core is astounding.
Remeber these are just my humble opinions, your mileage may differ have a nice day, keep reading, ask a lot of questions.

PS: Alan, yes ASX runs throught Simmconnect and it works fine, it has been stated, Google is your best friend And one 8800GTX will knock the socks off the 8600 even if the 8600 is in SLI......

Nvidia Chipset is not as good as it was before, so i suggested a X48 chipset board which is new and the rams they r mashkin rams with higher clocks, Trust me DDR2 rams with better timing is always better than ddr3 with high speed. The gfx card is a brand new , i was launched a this month and it a dual core. wat else u need. IF u want to can change it to quad Core.

The E8400 45nm Wolfdale CPUs are REALLY hard to find. I'm looking right now, and very few places seem to have them in stock--and those that do are charging $300+ for a CPU that was about $200 when it came out two months ago. I think Intel got caught short on them and is scrambling to catch up.
But if you're going to plunk $3500 down on a system (must be nice!), you'll have no problem going for a quad-core. You can put together a pretty awesome system and have enough left over to get some FS addons to enjoy on it.

lewis, if you still want a 8400, get the e3110. just the xeon version, basically the same chip. everyone is ranting that it might actually be better than the 8400 due to its lower voltage needs. i ordered one from ncix and i cant wait to plunk it in my system next week.
btw, josh, if you have $3500 lying around get an alienware system and forget all these headaches.

Nice catch, Octavian, thanks!
Seconding Adam, Cyberpower's worth a look. I haven't ordered anything from them, but they have a lot of "best of" awards, and their website gives you a huge number of configuration options to build a machine exactly the way you want it. Prices look very reasonable.

get a motherboard with the new AMD 760G chipset, and get a decent ATI HD3000 series, but it doesnt have to be great. whats special is that theres a full ATI HD 3400 built inboard, and with another ATI HD3000, they work together so its like a dual GPU video system, and get a AMD X2 6400. you can get a good computer, (including monitor, windows, and keyboard) for about 1k, at the most it would be about 1.5K

$3,500?!?! Wow. You definitely do NOT need to spend that much money for a system that will run FSX...
One suggestion, if I may. Before you spend *ANY* money on a new system, you should visit with Michael Greenblatt at FS-GS. He will offer a consultation on your system and tell you what you need in order to run FSX maxed out -- yes, I said FSX MAXED OUT!
www.fs-gs.com
I went though Michael's "system unification" consultation on my existing, "not-top-of-the-line" PC and now run FS9 with *maxed out* settings and it is absolutely amazing (screenshots to come!). I chose not to concentrate on configuring FSX at the time, but even after the FS9 configuration, FSX runs great, locked at 20+ fps in high settings! I'm a firm believer in his system unification process and can tell you that it was the best 60 eur I've ever spent (and way cheaper than any piece of new / incorrect hardware). FWIW, he also has a 35 eur consultation service that might meet your neds.
Moderator note: I am not compensated in any way for endorsing FS-GS's services, but rather am just an incredibly satisfied customer.
