ok so basically when i first joined DVA i got assigned into the 737 program, so i basically started taking up regular routes in the NGX.
But now after getting long haul experience in the LDS 767, i find myself wanting more challenging routes and approaches, and i feel like im only making approaches into major airports with full on ILS autolands, getting kinda boring, go figure huh?
Anyways, does anyone know of any fun routes, going to exotic places? im more than willing to work for the additional ratings below my current 767 position, and im also willing to buy payware for any of those aircraft that will take me to more interesting locations then just major airports.
Any thoughts are welcome, and suggestions are always appreciated!!!
Cheers guys

Chris,
There are many routes based out of Atlanta that utilize B737 and the A319/A320 serving the Caribbean. Many of these islands are little mountains in the ocean, so approaches become somewhat more then your standard ILS 27L into ATL. Also, in my opinion, there are great B767-3/4 routes from JFK and ATL that head down to South America. Most of these approaches are challenging due to the high altitude and mountain chains that surround most of these airports. Try Quito or Tegucigalpa just to name a few.
Have fun!

For exotic, try going to Papetee, Tahiti. If you want a challenging approach, give Hong Kong Kai Tak a try.

The Reunion Island to Antananarivo, Madagascar route is both challenging and exotic. In the default FSX scenery, the airport at Antananarivo sits in a moderate depression which makes for a challenging approach.

Wow,thanks guys those are some fantastic ideas. Just curious though, are they on the schedule under the "find a flight" page in the pilots center? or routes we fly freely and get credit for? i assumed all routes in the airline must be ones the airline has published on that page, but then i check the MD-11 routes and there are none, so im a bit confused lol, any advice?

Well, I don't remember now, but I know there are some tricky approaches in the caribbean... why don't you try MGGT (Guatemala City) or TNCM? Both are Delta destinations, and you can hit them aboard a 757...

If you get a chance to get across the pond, I have found London City to be not only a very scenic but also somewhat challenging approach (fly right through downtown London and the glideslope is set at like 5 degrees so it's pretty steep)...plus its a short runway. Another one that was pretty exotic in location and was an interesting approach was to Conakry in Africa. You fly right alongside a mountain coming in across the beach on final. Pretty cool approach. There are dozens of others and also, if a place doesn't show up on the route, you can always put in a request to do a charter flight. I've got several approved that I am in the process of flying now in Central Asia that have some pretty cool approaches.

Also, you can fly any flight in the schedule and not only the MD-11 flights. The equipment must be able to legally make the flight with reserves. I have been having a lot of fun with the B737-800 flying cross-country in Australia. Nice scenery, mountains, deserts, over water flights, down under has it all and it is great to get the Australian accent with the ATC on VATSIM.

Just an update guys, seeing as this thread is getting more views. Im doing istrument ground school now, and my teacher mentioned the famous Canarsie approach into KJFK. I found the approach plate/chart on airnav, i think its the government one, not the jeppsen. Im going to give it a shot in the NGX and maybe after a few approaches of practice, make a real flight with the VA into jfk.
Here is the approach plate/chart link: http://155.178.201.160/d-tpp/1209/00610VG13LR.PDF

So jim, your basically saying i can fly any published DVA flight (or a charter) with any aircraft as long as it can make it? So in the ACARS would i pick the routes aircraft, or the actual one i will fly? Sounds like a great way to build time in bigger aircraft with shorter routes.

Hello everyone, thought i would share an experience i just had flying with the 737-800. I flew from KATL to MHTG, its an airport in honduras. The flight number is DVA849. The RNAV approach was harder than kai tak, very very challenging, and staying on path you are merely 50-100 feet above the trees. If you want a REAL challenge, i highly recommend trying this route, its only like a 2 and half hour flight anyways.

Innsbruck, Austria (LOWI). It's a seasonal route and should be back soon. The approach is pretty challenging and offers a great view! Most airlines require 2 qualified Captains to fly the approach.
Here are the charts if you'd like to take a look: http://www.vacc-austria.org/index.php?page=content/chartlist&icao=LOWI

Also try some of the smaller, sometimes uncontrolled, airports we fly into out west. KSUN, KMMH, KGPI, and KEAT all are in small mountain valleys with challenging approach and departure procedures.
