I'm trying to understand how exactly flight assignments work and the way we use them. Looking at the available flight assignments and to use an example, I see this pair:
DVA8012 Leg 1
Atlanta GA (ATL) to Los Angeles CA (LAX)
DVA8013 Leg 1
Los Angeles CA (LAX) to Atlanta GA (ATL)
I then head over to Find A Flight to assign this pair of legs to myself. I don't see either leg 8012 or 8013. As an alternative, I choose:
DVA1354 Leg 1 ATL to LAX
DVA1855 Leg 1 LAX to ATL
Both legs are assigned to me and ready to plot route and fly.
Now out of curiosity I go back to available flight assignments. Both DVA8012 Leg 1 and DVA8013 Leg 1 are still listed as available and not assigned to me.
Am I doing this right? I performed a forum search and also referenced the DVA pilot manual and didn't see specifics on how to use this system, other than we don't technically have a flight assignment, however available flight assignments are generated by staff as recommended turnaround routes to fly.
Thank you,
Jas

I've never actually used the flight assignment method, I either use find a flight and select from the list of flights that I would like to do, dependant on whether I can fly the real world time and of course whether I'm qualified in that aircraft(always select my rated equipment times).
Another way of doing this and one which I've recently started doing is via the Random flight page, simply put the aircraft type and no of legs and you get a random destination come up, if I dont like the time of the flight I'll simply look in find a flight and see if there is a departure time more preferrable to me, you can do up to 6 legs via this method if you want to assign a lines worth of flying, I tend to do 2 though as it gives me the out and back flight.
For instance the latest flight it threw up was 757-300 from Atlanta - Pheonix - Atlanta which I completed over a 2 day period and it was also the first time I'd flown into KPHX.
Hope this helps
